16th
edition of the Alberta Francophone Games
May 22-23-24 2009
Following
the commendable success of the 15th Alberta Francophone
Games in 2007 in Red Deer and of the Canadian Francophone
Games 2008 in Edmonton, the FSFA is proud to announce
the 16th edition of the Alberta Francophone Games in
Edmonton in May 2009!
This
year, over 300 young French-speaking athletes from all
corners of the province will reconvene for an unforgettable
weekend. From May 22nd to 24th, the atmosphere in the capital
city will reverberate to the rhythms of the athletes’
efforts.
Spokesperson
We are extremely proud to have with us an athlete showing
great potential in his domain. An avid biathlete since
adolescence, François Leboeuf is currently making a name for himself on the international
scene, racking up impressive results on the biathlon
World Cup circuit. Honored with the prestigious "Academic
All Canadian'' title – awarded to athletes who
maintain a high academic record – François
continues his university studies in French in Alberta,
and keeps practicing his favorite sport.

Sports
In 2009, the Alberta Francophone Games will present
three sports:
soccer, badminton and basketball 3 on 3.
Cultural
activities
In addition to the sport competitions, the participants
will take part in opening ceremonies, a social evening
on Saturday and in closing ceremonies on Sunday afternoon.
It is during these ceremonies that the team awards will
be presented. The cultural programming is organized
by Francophonie jeunesse de l’Alberta.

Awards
Team Awards will be given during the closing ceremonies.
These include the
Prix de la delegation for the most points accumulated,
the Prix de l’amitié awarded by a popular
vote by the athletes, the Prix Linda Beaudet pour l’esprit
sportif for the most sportsperson like conduct, the
Prix de l’amélioration for the team having
most improved since the previous Games and the Prix
du français.
